I is for IDA

For my final major project I have been looking at the work of Edward Lear and began to create his alphabet in different medias. I just stumbled across the work of Edward Gorey who created his own alphabet, but with disturbing undertones which I feel fits much better with this ink style I have been getting addicted to lately.

A was an ant

A was an ant
Who seldom stood still
And who made a nice house
In the side of a hill.
I thought it’s about time I get away from the computer and get on the watercolours since I’ve never really used them before... quite fun actually. This is for my final major project, I am going to create a full alphabet using the words of Edward Lear.

Edward Lear

For my final major project at the Hull School of Art & Design I am going to look at the work of Edward Lear, here is a quick sketch I drew, trying out some new fineliners and markers.
Edward Lear (12 May 1812 – 29 January 1888) was an English artist, illustrator, author, and poet, renowned today primarily for his literary nonsense, in poetry and prose, and especially his limericks, a form that he popularised.
